Can Far Infrared Saunas Help with Weight Loss?

A common perception is that because you sweat a lot inside a far infrared sauna, it should therefore follow that it’s an effective means to shed those unwanted pounds. This claim has been repeatedly and thoroughly investigated by many professionals in the medical industry like Dr. Robert Petros of the Yerevan State Medical University, and the conclusion is: yes, infrared saunas can indeed help one lose weight.

Limited Benefit

There’s a caveat to that, though, so don’t quit your gym subscription just yet. Yes, infrared sauna can help you lose weight in your time inside, but you can also expect it to keep the weight off only for a short period of time. This is because what you’re losing is water weight, and not really the stored or excess fat you have in your body.

Don’t fret, though, because water weight loss can still be significant, especially if you need a motivation to kick your wellness and fitness plans to high gear. With proper diet, exercise, and sauna time, you can shed significant digits and keep them off.

Other Benefits

While it doesn’t speed up your metabolism per se, which helps burn calories, it does put you in a relaxed state, physically and mentally. When you’re relaxed and calm, you’re less likely to turn to stress-eating, which is the foremost culprit for weight gain. So even indirectly, infrared saunas can be able to help you lose weight for good.

What’s more, it has plenty of other health benefits, such as improvement in blood flow, increase in blood circulation, lowering of cholesterol, and others. So really, it’s not just your weight issue that is being addressed for every time you go on a sauna session. It helps with a whole lot of other things, too.
